What is a Parquet File Reader?
Apache Parquet is a columnar storage file format widely used in big data ecosystems including Apache Spark, AWS Athena, Google BigQuery, and Hadoop. A Parquet file reader lets you open and inspect .parquet files without spinning up a full data platform.
This free tool lets you upload a Parquet file online, inspect its schema, browse rows, profile column statistics, and export the data as CSV or JSON — all in your browser, with no data stored on our servers.
Parquet to JSON Converter
Upload any .parquet file and instantly download a clean JSON representation of every row and column. Ideal for debugging data pipelines or feeding downstream APIs.
Parquet to CSV Converter
Export flat columnar data from Parquet directly to CSV. Works with UNCOMPRESSED, Snappy, and Gzip files. Download and open straight in Excel or Google Sheets.
Schema Explorer
See every column name, physical Parquet type (INT32, BYTE_ARRAY, DOUBLE…), logical converted type (STRING, TIMESTAMP, DATE…), and nullability in one clean table.
Data Profiling
Automatically compute null counts, unique value cardinality, and min/max/mean for numeric columns — giving you instant insight into data quality and distribution.
Compression Support
Read Parquet files compressed with Snappy, Gzip, Brotli, and Zstd — the four most common codecs used in production data lakes.
How to Open a Parquet File Online
Simply drag your .parquet file onto the upload zone above and click Parse File. No installation, no sign-up. Supported on all modern browsers.
Frequently Asked Questions
What Parquet encodings are supported?
PLAIN, PLAIN_DICTIONARY, and RLE_DICTIONARY encodings are supported. These cover the vast majority of Parquet files produced by Spark, Pandas, and AWS Glue.
Is my data safe?
Yes. Your file is parsed server-side only temporarily during the request and is never persisted to disk or logged. We do not store any uploaded data.
What is the maximum file size?
The tool supports files up to 50 MB. For larger files, consider using the Parquet tools in the AWS Athena or Apache Spark ecosystems, or contact us to discuss a higher-capacity option.
Can I view Parquet files from AWS S3?
Currently you need to download the file from S3 first. Native S3 integration (via pre-signed URLs) is on the roadmap.
Why is Parquet used in big data?
Parquet's columnar layout means queries that touch only a subset of columns skip reading irrelevant bytes, reducing I/O dramatically compared to row-oriented formats like CSV or JSON. Combined with dictionary encoding and lightweight compression, it delivers high performance in data lakes and cloud warehouses.
