Amazon Connect Prompt Requirements (per AWS docs)
Amazon Connect requires .wav files for its Prompt Library. AWS recommends 8 kHz files — higher sample rates are downsampled automatically (PSTN G.711 limitation), which can degrade audio quality. Files must be under 50 MB and under 5 minutes.

How It Works

Four steps from upload to a Connect-ready WAV file — entirely in your browser.

Step 01
Upload Any Audio
Drag and drop or browse for MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC, AAC, M4A or any browser-supported audio file.
Step 02
Auto-Detection
The tool detects your file's sample rate, channel count, and duration — and tells you if it's already Connect-ready.
Step 03
Browser Conversion
Web Audio API decodes your file, resamples to 8 kHz, mixes to mono, and encodes as 16-bit PCM WAV — in milliseconds.
Step 04
Download & Upload
Download the converted WAV file and upload it directly to your Amazon Connect Prompt Library.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Amazon Connect audio prompts and this converter.

What audio format does Amazon Connect require?
Amazon Connect requires .wav files formatted at 8 kHz sample rate, 16-bit PCM encoding, and mono channel. Files must be less than 50 MB and under 5 minutes long. AWS recommends the 8 kHz format because Amazon Connect uses PSTN telephony (G.711 codec), which operates at 8 kHz — uploading higher-quality audio means AWS will downsample it anyway, potentially introducing artefacts.
Can I upload MP3 files directly to Amazon Connect?
No. The Amazon Connect Prompt Library only accepts .wav files. You must convert any MP3, OGG, AAC, FLAC, or other audio format to WAV before uploading. This free tool does that conversion automatically, producing the exact spec Amazon Connect needs.
Does my audio file get uploaded to your servers?
Absolutely not. This tool runs 100% in your browser using the Web Audio API. Your audio file is decoded and re-encoded in your browser's memory — no data ever leaves your device, no server ever touches your file. It's completely private and safe for confidential IVR recordings.
Why does Amazon Connect need 8 kHz audio?
Amazon Connect is a telephony platform that uses the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network), which operates using the G.711 codec at 8 kHz. Even if you upload a 44 kHz audio file, Amazon Connect will downsample it to 8 kHz for playback. Recording at 8 kHz from the start avoids this transcoding step and ensures the best possible audio quality on the telephone network.
What is the maximum file size for Amazon Connect prompts?
Amazon Connect supports prompt files that are less than 50 MB and less than 5 minutes in duration. A 5-minute mono WAV file at 8 kHz/16-bit is approximately 4.8 MB — well within the limit. This tool displays your output file size so you can verify compliance before downloading.
My WAV file already exists — do I still need to convert it?
Only if it's in the correct format. Many WAV files are recorded at 44.1 kHz stereo, which doesn't match Amazon Connect's requirements. Upload your existing WAV file here — the tool will detect its sample rate, channels, and bit depth, and tell you instantly whether it's already Connect-ready or needs conversion.
How do I upload a converted prompt to Amazon Connect?
After downloading the converted WAV file: (1) Log in to your Amazon Connect admin site, (2) Navigate to Routing → Prompts, (3) Choose Add prompt → Upload, (4) Select your converted .wav file, (5) Give it a name and optionally add tags. The prompt will then be available in all your contact flows.
Does this tool support batch conversion of multiple files?
Currently this tool converts one file at a time for simplicity and reliability. If you need to batch-convert many prompt files, you can process them sequentially using this tool, or use a local tool like FFmpeg with the command: ffmpeg -i input.mp3 -ar 8000 -ac 1 -acodec pcm_s16le output.wav
